As part of our kinder program, all children in our kinder room participate in a weekly beach kinder excursion. The children look forward to the peace and tranquility of the ocean. Little do they realise it is a great place for mathematic, scientific and language exploration and discovery!
This week the kinder children were excited to discover a crab while digging a hole in the sand. The children gathered around and watched the crab intently. Sue, our 2023 kinder teacher, knew this was a great opportunity to encourage scientific learning. Together, the children discussed the characteristics, habitat and diet of crabs. They also discussed the importance of protecting the crab’s ecosystem and explored what might happen if they removed the crab from it’s natural habitat. They then formed the conclusion that leaving the crab alone was the most respectful thing to do.
