Meet Gordon from City Farm Kinder

Meet Gordon our City Farm Kinder facilitator.

Have you seen the big, tall man with the beard? He carries a shovel and has a pocket full of seeds. He may look like Santa Claus, but he’s much more of a Garden Gnome.

“Sixty years ago, I was introduced to gardening by my mum, dad and next-door neighbour, Mrs Luise. I have been hooked ever since. Gardening: growing things from seeds; making compost and finding worms; weeding and pruning and watching pollinating birds and insects.  It is one of the most creative things that children can discover and enjoy. It is about LIFE itself. I want to share and teach what I learned 60 years ago.”

This summer Gordon will be unravelling the new Urban Farm at 112 Civic Parade Altona. Together with the children he will plant, tend, water and feed Sunflowers, Beans, Sweet Corn, Tomatoes and Pumpkins the way they grew them in North America 300 years ago – as companion plants. The children will also eat them when it’s time to harvest in Autumn. Gordon and the children will also be growing lots of flowers too.

Gordon hopes the journey will be as fun as it will be inspiring.
