The years before starting school are an exciting time for children as they become more independent, develop their own interests, and begin to understand the world around them. At Altona Early Education Centre, our Kindergarten program near Laverton helps children make the most of this stage while building the confidence and skills they need for their transition to primary school.
Our Kindergarten program uses play-based learning to make education engaging and purposeful. Children are encouraged to investigate ideas, ask questions, experiment, communicate with others, and work through challenges. Educators create experiences that support early literacy and numeracy alongside language development, creativity, problem-solving, social skills, and emotional development.
The centre is proudly owned and operated by Altona locals Grace and Tom Azzopardi. Grace is a registered psychologist, qualified kindergarten teacher and early childhood educator, bringing valuable knowledge of child development and early learning to the program. Tom, a father of four, is actively involved in the centre and shares the family's strong commitment to creating a welcoming environment for local children and their families.
We understand that school readiness is about much more than knowing letters and numbers. Children also need to feel comfortable communicating with others, managing everyday challenges, following routines, making decisions, and taking increasing responsibility for themselves. Our educators provide encouragement and guidance as children develop these important skills in preparation for their next educational chapter.
Families from Laverton can reach our Altona centre in a short drive, making it a convenient option for Kindergarten in Melbourne's Western Suburbs. At Altona Early Education Centre, children are given the opportunity to learn, explore, develop independence, and build the confidence to take their next step into school.

“I cannot recommend this centre more highly. The team are caring, compassionate, flexible and make leaving for work that much easier. Due to its size it feels more intimate than others in turn making the care very individualised and keeping the children engaged.”
